Event Description

This hearing is to accept public testimony on emergency and proposed permanent rules related to aid for school mental health programs.

The new chapter of administrative code, PI 31, establishes eligible expenditures under the program, procedures for eligible schools to request reimbursement of eligible expenditures, and how the department will disburse the $3 million allocated for mental health aid in the 2017-19 biennial budget (2017 Wisconsin Act 59). The aid program begins for the 2018-19 school year and supports the expansion of mental health programs for students through reimbursement of social worker services for school boards, independent charter schools, and private schools that participate in one of the state’s parental choice programs.

Those intending to testify at the hearing will be required to present photo identification at the security desk near the Webster Street public entrance. Those using the building’s Butler Street handicapped accessible entrance should press a doorbell for admittance and check in with security. Written comments received no later than Feb. 14 will be given the same consideration as testimony presented at the hearing.

Written comments on the emergency and proposed permanent rules may be made via the department’s form for submitting public comment. Questions or additional testimony on the rules may be sent by email to the department’s administrative rules coordinator or by U.S. mail to Carl Bryan, administrative rules coordinator, 125 South Webster Street, P.O. Box 7841, Madison, WI 53707-7841.

The text of the proposed rules is available on the department’s administrative rules website or the Wisconsin Legislature's Clearinghouse Rules site.
