Event Description

Join LEAF staff and DNR experts over your lunch-hour as we explore different topics in the world of forestry. Each online session will provide background content about the day’s scheduled forestry topic, mention career pathways for students, and allow question and answer time for participants to interact with the presenter.

As the federal government wraps up the 2020 census of people, let’s delve into how and why the government also does a “census” of trees. You’ll get highlights of the information regarding Wisconsin trees and forests and how you can access the data. The Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program, through the United States Forest Service, is a powerful inventory platform that can track changes in forests over time at small (county) and large (state, national) scales. We’ll discover that Wisconsin also has several other inventory programs that make the state a leader in forest inventory and analysis.
