Wisconsin ITL Standards and the Connection to Social and Emotional Learning

Monday, September 27, 2021

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and mental wellbeing continue to be at the forefront of education as we move into the 2021-22 school year. We know a solid educational experience begins with good mental health. As educators, it is important to integrate some checkpoints with students but it is also important we are integrating SEL into our content and classroom activities. Students need to be able to recognize their own feelings and how they affect their everyday lives. DPI has created a document that allows educators to focus on SEL competencies in their classroom while at the same time leveraging other skills students need to be future ready. This document aligns the Wisconsin Social and Emotional Learning competencies with the Wisconsin Standards for Information and Technology Literacy. This alignment allows educators to implement both areas into educational experiences for all students without it being “another thing” to add. While you are implementing SEL you are also implementing the Information and Technology Literacy standards and vice versa. Check out the resource page and the alignment doc to see how these can support you in your work for this upcoming year.
