Cornucopia of Messages!

Wednesday, May 17, 2023

Can you believe it is the middle of May?! Library media specialists are busy working to gather materials from students, promote summer reading opportunities, spend remaining Common School Funds, and create year-end reports to track the progress of library plans and celebrate all the magic happening in library programming!

With all of these things in mind, we just want to share some important announcements with you:

  • We extend a great deal of gratitude to all who hosted Dr. Williams, Assistant State Superintendent for the Division of Libraries and Technology, as he toured the state during School Library Month. Please check out this slideshow highlighting some of the great visits.

  • There will be an in-person workshop on August 1 and 2, 2023, in Marshfield, entitled School and Public Libraries - What You Need to Know! This is a wonderful opportunity for those who are new to the field. We will be focusing on some of the foundational pieces of school librarianship in Wisconsin, including Common School Funds and Future Ready Library Planning. Registration is limited to 50 participants and is open until May 22, 2023. Please email Monica Treptow for a registration form.

  • Need some inspiration to complete your district library plan? Wisconsin has been featured in two recent Future Ready Librarian events. Monica Treptow was a guest on Shannon Miller's podcast, Leading from the Library, where they shared some of the great ways district library plans can support and promote library programs. Additionally, Monica and a panel of three Wisconsin library media specialists were showcased in a Future Ready Schools webinar, Planning for Excellence in Your Library Program Using the Future Ready Librarian Framework. Both events can be found online and can be used to support the need for a library plan in your district.

  • The DPI Google School Library Google Currents community has officially moved to Spaces. Everyone in the community received an invitation stating they have been added to the community, which is located in Google Chat. The link in the email is the pathway to entering the group. If you missed or deleted this email, please attempt to recover it. At this point, we have lost over 600 members!

  • Our final Virtual Networking Meeting for the school year will be on the morning of Thursday, May 25. We hope to see you there! Please reach out if you need the meeting link.

Wishing everyone well as you wrap up the last few weeks of the school year.
