Stay Connected This Year

Thursday, August 18, 2022

When it comes to content area connections, library life can be lonely. But it does not have to be! Staying informed and networking with other library media specialists is critical to your professional growth and success.

The Virtual Networking Meetings will return on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 9:00 AM. These meetings are a great opportunity to hear current updates, share information, ask questions, and network with others about all things related to school libraries. Although the first meeting time is set, please fill out this form to have input on future meeting times and this year’s list of special guest presenters.

Links to join the Virtual Networking Meeting, and the meeting notes in case you cannot attend, are always posted in the WI DPI School Libraries Google Currents community. This community continues to grow as a resource for announcements, questions, and connections. And, with a preference setting for getting emails when new information is posted, members can stay up to date without needing to remember to log in. Please email monica.treptow@dpi.wi.gov for a link to join.

In addition to these opportunities to connect from the DPI, there are other options to explore. The Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) has professional learning events, an annual conference, and other member benefits. WEMTA serves as Wisconsin’s connection to national organizations, including the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and the International Society for Technology Education (ISTE). Both of these offer memberships with benefits, as well. Local library networks are also available through each of the Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESAs). Although the networks vary, many offer virtual meetings and in-person workshops throughout the year.

Staying informed and connected is challenging when you are the only library media specialist in your school or district. Yet, it is vitally important for success. Choose one, or all, of the options above to engage in this year for both your professional and mental health.
