We have received many questions from both educators and school districts regarding the renewal of the 1-year licenses with stipulations. Our office understands that some educators' ability to make adequate progress for renewal of this license may be impacted by COVID-19. (e.g. six semester credits in an approved program toward licensure or if all other program requirements are complete, attempts at the test(s) that are preventing endorsement).
Please know that the DPI allows educators until August 31st to make adequate progress and provide verification of this progress to the employing school district. If your ability to make adequate progress has been impacted by COVID-19 closures, your district may request that the department make an exception to the renewal requirements for the 2020-2021 school year. For our office to consider an exception, applicants will need to provide both a completed district request PI-1624-LWS1 form and a letter from the employing school district on district letterhead, signed by appropriate district staff/supervisor, with the following information:
- What pathway to licensure is the educator completing to obtain full licensure needed for their assignment?
- What evidence has the educator provided to you that verifies they will either complete the chosen pathway to license in the coming school year or verify they can make adequate progress going forward (e.g., registrations of testing, admission letter with class schedules, etc.)
