Reporting Unpaid Child Support
Requirement to Take Action on a License or Application
The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) is required under state statutes to take action on a license under Wisconsin Statutes section 115.315 if the licensee or permit holder is delinquent in making court-ordered payments of child or family support, maintenance, birth expenses, medical expenses or other expenses related to the support of a child or former spouse or if the licensee or permit holder fails to comply, after appropriate notice, with a subpoena or warrant issued by the department of children and families or a county child support agency under s. 59.53 (5) and related to paternity or child support proceedings
Additionally under Wisconsin Statutes section 118.19(1r), the DPI is not allowed to issue a license or permit or revalidate a license with no expiration date if the applicant is delinquent in making court-ordered payments of child or family support, maintenance, birth expenses, medical expenses or other expenses related to the support of a child or former spouse or if the applicant fails to comply, after appropriate notice, with a subpoena or warrant issued by the department of children and families or a county child support agency under s. 59.53 (5) and related to paternity or child support proceedings.
How to Submit a Referral to the DPI
Any member of the public may make a referral to the DPI regarding a license or permit holder or applicant who meets the conditions noted above. To make a referral, submit information to the licensing helpdesk and place in the description "Unpaid Child Support Referral" and then proceed with the rest of your message.
