Does 2019-2020 Second Semester Experience Count Toward a Lifetime License?

Friday, April 3, 2020

State statute requires that an educator complete six semesters of successful teaching, administrative, or pupil services experience in order to qualify for a Lifetime license. For the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year, regardless of how districts provide instruction for the rest of the semester or if the district receives a waiver regarding required hours of instruction, DPI will consider the experience to be one of the six semesters*.

Please note that if you are using the current semester as one of your six, you need to wait until May 1, 2020, to ask your school or district to verify your successful experience on the required PI-1613 form (https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/forms/pdf/f1613.pdf).

* Please know that the same consideration will be given to the experience earned during the second semester of the 2019-20 school year for other pathways to licensure like experience needed for license via content test, the three-year license with stipulations, prerequisite experience required for administrator license or reading teacher license.
