Building the Heart of Successful Schools Conference

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Student Services/Prevention and Wellness Team, in collaboration with the Wisconsin Safe and Healthy Schools (WISH) Center, will host the annual Building the Heart of Successful Schools Conference December 5 - 6, 2019. A preconference will also be offered December 4. Both will be held at the Wilderness Resort and Glacier Canyon Lodge located in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin.

This year, the focus remains on the continued development of the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child model. The opening keynote speaker is Jim Sporleder, a retired principal, and current trauma-informed coach/consultant as well as a trainer with the Children’s Resilience Initiative. Karen George, a former teacher and current award-winning REALTOR® with Realty Executives Associates, comedienne, actor, and public speaker will provide the keynote on the last day of the conference.

Each day, a wide range of professional learning sessions will be offered for school counselors, school social workers, health teachers, AODA Coordinators, principals, and others.

Conference-goers are invited to network with friends and colleagues on the evening of December 5, while honoring the 2019 Wisconsin School Health/WSCC Award recipients.

Pre-conference opportunities will be provided on December 4. Participants can choose from the following pre-conference options:

  • Teen Sexting Intervention Program: Train the Trainers
  • Effectively Responding to Self-Injury in Schools
  • Moving Forward with Social Emotional Learning
  • Restorative Practices - Using Circles Effectively

Separate, individual registration is required for pre-conference selections.
