CCBC 2022 Book Choices Now Available, Book Discussion To Be Held April 20

Tuesday, March 29, 2022

The Cooperative Children’s Book Center, a part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education and partially supported by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, recently released its best-of-the-year books list in a virtual format. The fully annotated CCBC Choices 2022 publication is now available here.

The booklet recommends 273 books for children and teens published in 2021, and is available as a PDF. It is organized by themes and genres, and provides detailed descriptions of what makes each book great. Recommendations also include an age range for each book. Visit the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s CCBC webpage here to check out CCBC Choices 2022, and here to view the citation list. You can also find observations on publishing in 2021 here on the CCBC’s website and a searchable database here.

The CCBC is a non-circulating research library for those interested in children’s and young adult literature. The CCBC receives almost every children’s and young adult book from the publishing industry in the United States each year, and librarians have read, cataloged, and written the recommendations for the best-of-the-best books since 1980. The organization has also been documenting books by and about Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) it has received since 1994 and is an authoritative national source on tracking diversity in children's and young adult literature.

April Book Discussion

The CCBC also offers hands-on discussions of newly published trade books for children and young adults. The discussions are intended for adults, including preservice and practicing educators and librarians and any others with an interest in literature for youth.

The next book discussion will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. on April 20, 2022 in the Elizabeth Burr Room of the CCBC (Room 401 Teacher Education, 225 N. Mills Street in Madison). Registration is not required, but participants are asked to read at least one or two books on the list.

Books on the CCBC’s monthly discussion lists are new titles selected for discussion and are not CCBC book recommendations. Visit the CCBC’s website here for more information on the book discussions and check out the book discussion guidelines here on the CCBC’s website.
