The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is proud to highlight the achievements of eight remarkable schools from across the state for their exceptional academic performance and success in closing achievement gaps.
Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Education ended the national Blue Ribbon Schools Program — an initiative that had recognized excellence in schools since 1982. Wisconsin’s nominated schools had already completed the rigorous application process when the program was abruptly ended.
“Our schools did the hard work, and they earned this honor,” State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly said, as she announced this year’s recipients.
National Blue Ribbon Schools are honored in two categories: Exemplary High Performing Schools and Exemplary Gap Closing Schools.
This year’s recipients are:
- Edgewood Elementary School (School District of Greenfield) – Gap Closing
- Prairie Lane Elementary School (Kenosha Unified School District) – High Performing
- Karcher Middle School (Burlington Area School District) – Gap Closing
- Forest Lane Community School (Montello School District) – Gap Closing
- Shiocton Elementary School (School District of Shiocton) – Gap Closing
- T.J. Walker Middle School (Sturgeon Bay Schools) – High Performing and Gap Closing
- Crivitz High School (Crivitz School District) – Gap Closing
- St. Croix Falls Elementary School (St. Croix Falls School District) – High Performing
“These schools, representing urban, suburban, and rural areas across our state, show the power of public education and the strength of Wisconsin communities,” Dr. Underly said. “Thank you to every student, educator, and family who worked so hard to make these honors possible, and congratulations on being a Blue Ribbon School. Wisconsin’s future is bright because of you.”
The DPI plans to continue a state-level version of this recognition program in the future to ensure Wisconsin schools receive the acknowledgement they deserve.
