DPI Strategic Plan: Stronger Schools, Stronger Wisconsin

Thursday, October 9, 2025
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is actively rolling out its statewide strategic plan – a roadmap to better support Wisconsin students, educators, and communities.

Led by State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly, the strategic plan reflects the voices of Wisconsinites who offered feedback at listening sessions. It is grounded in four key priority areas:

  • Innovative Education – Empowering learners through forward-thinking approaches.
  • Educator Recruitment and Retention – Supporting a strong, sustainable educator workforce.
  • Learner and Educator Mental Health – Promoting well-being in every learning environment.
  • Modernization and Improvement of the DPI – Building a more effective, efficient department.

This plan is designed to be adaptive and community-informed, guiding the DPI’s work in creating meaningful, measurable change. Check out this informational resource for more information on what this means for you!

As part of this effort and aligned with the Modernization and Improvement of the DPI priority, the department recently adopted a newly redesigned organizational structure. This update is aimed at better aligning our internal work with the needs of students, educators and local communities. This one-page resource offers some additional information about this initiative and how it impacts you.

We invite you to be part of this journey as we work toward a stronger, more responsive education system for all.
