PBS Wisconsin Education is thrilled to announce the launch of its newest collection, Field Notes on Climate. The video series for grades 6-12 aims to help learners understand local and personal climate change impacts, explore how people are taking action to address climate change, and expand understanding of climate change through a hopeful, future-focused lens.

The first season features eight episodes, each driven by an essential question about climate change. Host Ami Eckard-Lee visits scientists, researchers, youth, and other changemakers developing solutions for a sustainable and equitable climate future–right here in Wisconsin.

Field Notes on Climate doesn’t shy away from hard topics, but we try to approach them in a way that leads to fruitful discussions rather than fear or helplessness,” said series producer Kylie Compe. “The goal of the show is to teach students about the causes and effects of climate change, and the solutions. By including examples of actionable solutions within our episodes, we aim to empower viewers with knowledge and instill them with confidence. There are already a lot of people around the state of Wisconsin doing amazing work to mitigate or adapt to various climate change issues in their communities, and we hope to see that grow.”

Field Notes on Climate is free to use, standards aligned, and developed with Wisconsin educators. Support materials for each episode include teaching tips, background information, extension activities and questions, and supported standards.

You can join the Field Notes on Climate: Virtual Premiere and Q&A on YouTube during University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Earth Fest on April 20 at 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.

The first four episodes will launch on April 6. The full collection will launch on Earth Day, April 22. Find it on the Field Notes on Climate website.
