All schools strive to create a healthy, safe, and sustainable learning environment. The challenge, according to educator Stephen Ritz, is that “every school has a unique personality and specific needs influenced by local context.” To address this challenge, Green and Healthy Schools Wisconsin will hold two events for educators to gain inspiration from learning about sustainability best practices.
The Green and Healthy Schools Solution Summits provide a space for participants to come together, share and learn new ideas, and to gain different perspectives on how to grow the number of Wisconsin schools practicing sustainability. Two events are being offered in different regions of the state. The first at Oregon Middle School on October 27, 2017 and the second on March 9, 2018 at Colby Elementary, a 2015 Green Ribbon School Honoree.
Participants at the Solutions Summits will connect with others from around the state who are advancing sustainability efforts in schools to:
- learn strategies to engage staff and students in reducing environmental impact,
- improve health and wellness activities,
- increase environmental literacy, and
- gain practical strategies to create positive and sustainable change at schools.
Who should attend?
Individuals, school teams involved with sustainability efforts, and those interested in growing green and healthy initiatives.
The Solutions Summit agenda includes an inspiring keynote speaker, breakout learning sessions, lunch, a tour of a Green & Healthy School, and common planning time.
