March marks the celebration of Middle Level Education. During this month, we highlight the importance of high-quality middle level education and its role in ensuring future success for our students.
Why is Middle Level Education Important?
Middle Level Education supports students during one of the most important growth periods of their lives - ages 10 through 15. During this time, students need the opportunity to explore and expand their understanding of self, others, and academic content in a safe and comfortable learning environment. Early adolescents need to participate in age-appropriate risk taking activities to test their strengths and identify areas of growth.
Working with early adolescent learners encourages adults to examine their own perceptions and understandings - it allows the adults to change with their students. Recognizing the impact of middle level education is vital to ensuring all students are college and career ready.
Wisconsin and Middle Level Education
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recognizes the important contributions of several partners, like the Wisconsin Association of Middle Level Education, in determining decisions for state level activities. Wisconsin has much to celebrate during this year’s Middle Level Education month!
