The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) recognized 24 Wisconsin school districts as Best Communities for Music Education Districts. Two Wisconsin schools earned the title, 2019 SupportMusic Merit Awards School.
NAMM is an organization focused on advancing active music participation across the lifespan through research, education, philanthropic giving, and public service programs. One of their programs, through their foundation, supports the Best Communities for Music Education program. This program has been recognizing school communities who have fostered quality music education programs since 1998.
Each year, school communities are selected based on their work promoting and implementing music education programs in their schools. The awards put a spotlight on schools that continue to sustain and grow quality music programs.
District personnel complete an online survey to describe their music education programs and submit for consideration within the Best Communities for Music Education listing. Wisconsin has been well represented in this program each year.
The survey for the 2020 district submissions is expected to be released in October 2019. The program offers national recognition, builds community pride, increases the visibility of the music program in the community, and provides a tool to review and audit the current landscape of the program.
