New Education for Homeless Children and Youth Compliance Grant Available

Tuesday, March 16, 2021

The Department of Public Instruction is pleased to announce the 2021-23 Competition for the new Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Compliance grant.

The intent of the new EHCY Compliance grant is to:

  • strive for equitable distribution of EHCY funds throughout the state

  • provide increased technical support to districts to ensure compliance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act

  • encourage grant recipients to go beyond compliance in an identified pathway of focus

  • provide the opportunity for a more diverse group of districts to feel prepared to apply for the EHCY 3-year innovation grant

Wisconsin Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), including public school districts and independent charter schools, are encouraged to apply. While all LEAs in Wisconsin must meet the requirements of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, this grant allows LEAs to focus on compliance under this federal law and receive targeted technical assistance to enhance identification of and services provided to children and youth experiencing homelessness.

The competitive EHCY Compliance grant operates on a two-year cycle and will follow the DPI competitive, discretionary grant process. Applicants are eligible to apply for $15,000 in grant funds for the grant period. Award recipients will receive funding beginning in the 2021-22 school year and continuing through the 2021-23 school year (contingent upon meeting grant requirements and upon the availability of federal funds).

DPI EHCY coordinators are holding an informational webinar on March 18, 2021, at 9:00 a.m. Registration is not required. To join the webinar on Microsoft Teams, please use the following link: Click here to join the Teams meeting.
