Public Comment Period Open for Draft Informational Guidebook on Dyslexia and Related Conditions

Tuesday, April 13, 2021

The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is seeking public comment on a draft of an informational guidebook on dyslexia and related conditions.

The draft informational guidebook was developed in collaboration with co-chairs of an advisory committee with input from that advisory committee, composed of individuals representing the International Dyslexia Association Wisconsin Branch and the Wisconsin State Reading Association. As required under Wisconsin 2019 Act 86, the draft guidebook contains:

  • Screening processes and tools available to identify dyslexia and related conditions.

  • Interventions and instructional strategies that have been shown to improve academic performance of pupils with dyslexia and related conditions.

  • Resources and services related to dyslexia and related conditions.

The draft guidebook and a corresponding online feedback form can be found on the DPI’s website. The form will remain open until 11:55 p.m. on May 9, 2021. Any individual, group, or agency in Wisconsin may submit written comments or information regarding academic standards through the online form. While not required under 2019 Act 86, the comment period provides an opportunity for the public to view and provide input on the informational guidebook.

The final informational guidebook will be publicly available no later than December 2021. Once available, all school districts will be required to link to the guidebook on their website. As required under law, the informational guidebook will be updated every three years.
