From Snow Fort Tips to Bath Bomb Kits: Winter Fun at the Library!

Tuesday, January 3, 2023

2023 is here, and as winter blankets Wisconsin, residents can look to their local public library for exciting ways to enjoy the season, whether outside enjoying our state’s beautiful parks, or inside the home with cozy activities. Libraries offer a variety of programs, tools, and resources besides traditional books and movies for library users of all ages and interests.

Check Out Wisconsin State Parks
As of November 1st, 2022, library card holders can check out a daily admission pass from participating libraries. The passes will be valid for free admission for one vehicle at any state park, forest or recreation area where admission is required. Along with the day pass, the cardholder will receive an informational kit of state park system materials and maps, a Wisconsin Explorer Program book, stickers, accessibility information and more. Each of the 20 libraries is receiving 50 day passes available for a one-time use. More information about participating libraries is included in the link above.

Check out Outdoor Gear
If the great outdoors is calling, Beloit Public Library, Whitehall Public Library, Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes, Amery Public Library, and many other libraries across the state have snowshoes in all shapes and sizes available to check out. Or hit the slopes with sleds, saucers, and toboggans, and build a snow fort with kits available at Waunakee Public Library.

Check out Indoor Fun
Alternatively, if a comfy night indoors hits the spot, try your hand at baking with one of the Experience Baking Kits found at Rice Lake Public Library, get creative with a Bath Bomb Maker Kit from Chilton Public Library, challenge your family to a friendly game of Football Cornhole Bean Bag Toss from New Berlin Public Library, or learn loom knitting with a kit from Superior Public Library.

Check out your local library today to explore what winter-friendly kits, resources, crafts, and programs they might be offering!
