Wisconsin Standards for Mathematics Public Comment Period

Tuesday, February 2, 2021

The public commenting period is now open for the draft of Wisconsin Standards for Mathematics. The public is invited to view the draft standards and then participate through the public comment survey to provide feedback. The draft was released on January 26, 2021, for public review and was provided to the education committees of the legislature.

The DPI has a transparent and comprehensive process for reviewing and revising academic standards. The process began with a Notice of Intent to review and a public comment period which began on January 28, 2020.

The State Superintendent’s Standards Review Council examined those comments and recommended revising the standards. The State Superintendent authorized the writing of new Wisconsin Academic Standards for Mathematics. The State Superintendent’s Academic Standards Writing Committee, a panel of Wisconsin experts representing classroom educators, school leaders, and higher education, with input from business owners and groups, wrote a draft of the standards.

Citizens, parents, students, educators, and other school personnel are invited to submit comments through the public survey or attend a public hearing on the newly drafted Wisconsin Standards for Mathematics.

Comments will be collected through February 25, 2021.

One virtual public hearing, on February 9, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. will be held during the comment period:
