Wisconsin Students Eligible to Receive Free Meals for 2021-22 School Year

Tuesday, August 10, 2021

All Wisconsin students will once again have access to healthy meals free of charge this school year, as a federal waiver remains in effect through the 2021-22 school year.

Meals are provided to students at no cost, regardless of income eligibility, through the National School Lunch Program’s Seamless Summer Option. A waiver from the U.S. Department of Agriculture allows all schools or districts to participate in the program without meeting traditional eligibility requirements.

Income eligibility guidelines were recently updated for schools and districts electing to operate the traditional National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program, rather than the Seamless Summer Option, for the upcoming school year. However, schools or districts participating in either of those programs are eligible to apply for the Seamless Summer Option.

For more information on the Seamless Summer Option, visit the DPI’s webpage.
