MADISON — Teams of educators from 135 schools throughout the state will gather in Madison on Monday for the Wisconsin Title I Schools of Recognition program and awards ceremony.

The day will include informational sessions at 8:30 a.m. and repeating at 9:15 a.m. at the Madison Concourse Hotel. Topics will cover “Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Hiring Requirements for Title I Paraprofessionals,” “Wisconsin Licensure Updates,” and a “Title I Share Out.”

During the noon awards ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda, the Sheboygan Jazz Ensemble from Sheboygan South High School, under the direction of Wade Heinen, will perform. Jeanan Yasiri Moe, an executive business and communications consultant and director of strategic communications with the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation, will direct the presentation of awards. State Superintendent Tony Evers will give a welcome and present each school with a plaque commemorating their award. Additionally, five schools that have earned School of Recognition awards for five consecutive years will receive a special flag to mark their achievement.

All award-winning schools receive federal Title I funding to provide services to large numbers or high percentages of economically disadvantaged children. A list of all schools receiving the 2017‑18 awards is in the official release.
