Department will hold hearing on proposed rule relating to pupil nondiscrimination procedures

MADISON — The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction will hold an administrative rules hearing to accept public testimony on a proposed permanent rule related to revisions to pupil nondiscrimination procedures.
 
The proposed rule, Clearinghouse Rule 21-007, seeks to amend Wis. Admin. Code sec PI 9 with respect to the administration of pupil nondiscrimination procedures under Wis. Stat. 118.13. The effect of the proposed rule is to ensure accessibility of school district pupil nondiscrimination policies and procedures for parent and pupils, prompt resolution of discrimination complaints and appeals, clarification around school district responsibilities to address pupil discrimination substantiated through the complaint process, and clarification around school district self-evaluation and data reporting requirements.
 
The DPI will hold the public hearing by teleconference only. Additional information on attending is provided below. Written comments received no later than the date of the hearing will be given the same consideration as testimony presented at the hearing.
 
A copy of the proposed rule is available on the department's Administrative Rules webpage or the Wisconsin Legislature Rules site. Written comments may be submitted in lieu of testimony via the legislature’s webpage for submitting public comment. Questions or additional testimony may be sent by email to the department’s administrative rules coordinator.
