Emergency Summer Meals COVID-19 Information

Overview

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Seamless Summer Option (SSO) allow school food authorities (SFAs) and other community organizations to provide free meals to children during the COVID-19 pandemic. The USDA has extended the wavier of eligibility requirements for both of these programs through September 30, 2021.

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

For agencies serving meals to children during emergency meal situations. Agencies who participated in the past may choose to operate SFSP during emergency meal situations and COVID-19 related school closures.

Seamless Summer Option (SSO)

For SFAs only serving free meals during emergency meal situations. SFAs without active SFSP contracts are directed to participate in the SSO during the COVID-19 pandemic.
