Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL) 2020

RIPL logoThe Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s Division for Libraries and Technology (DLT), with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), is offering a limited number of scholarships to attend the Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL) from July 12-15, 2020, at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca, IL (NW Chicago suburbs).

Eligibility: All public library staff (all positions - supervisor permission required) in all Wisconsin public libraries who have never attended RIPL were eligible to apply for a DLT scholarship. Applicants who applied for a RIPL-funded scholarship for small, rurual public libraries or for a facilitator discounted rate were also eligible to apply for this DLT-funded scholarship opportunity. However, if the applicant was selected to receive a RIPL scholarship, the applicant will not be funded by DLT in order to provide more opportunities for Wisconsin library staff to attend.

Scholarship Application Form: The DLT RIPL Scholarship Application form was due Friday, January 17, 2020. The Division for Libraries and Technology is pleased to announce the scholarship recipients for RIPL 2020.

Scoring Rubric: DLT and other reviewers used the RIPL Scoring Rubric and Additional Considerations to review scholarship applications.

Covered Expenses: The DLT RIPL scholarship will cover event registration ($1,300 value) that includes curriculum and materials, three nights lodging, and all institute meals. In addition, travel expenditures to the event (e.g., mileage or airfare, meals, and lodging) within allowable limits will be reimbursed to scholarship recipients.

Other Opportunities to Attend RIPL: In early November 2019, Wisconsin public library and system directors were sent information regarding other scholarship opportunities to attend RIPL. DLT encouraged interested parties to 1) apply to attend RIPL as facilitators for a discounted rate if selected, 2) apply for a small, rural public library scholarship funded by RIPL, 3) or to register for the full event at cost starting on February 3, 2020. Scholarship recipients funded by RIPL as well as facilitators were contacted by either RIPL or DLT. A full list of scholarship recipients is available here.
