Be Part of the School Library Work Group

Friday, November 5, 2021

A dedicated team that guides decision-making on school library topics, develops strategies for creating a stronger field of school library professionals, and provides tangible evidence for how robust school library programs improve student achievement in Wisconsin schools.

In spring 2018, a call went out to library media specialists around the state to form the inaugural School Library Work Group. In two years, this group's accomplishments included creating the Common School Fund Infographic and completely revising the set of tools available from the DPI for evaluating library media specialists. Additionally, the group provided feedback and inspiration to improve the capacity of library media specialists building library plans, share information with the field, and explore different ways to meet the needs of library media specialists and their library programs. This amazing group of library media specialists, administrators, higher education colleagues, and CESA representatives networked, learned from each other, and participated in robust, meaningful conversations.

Does this sound like something you want to be a part of?

After taking a break to honor the capacity of everyone during the onset of the pandemic, we are rebooting the group for 2021-22 and the future. The DPI is looking for library professionals with the following qualities:

  • Possession of a strong vision for improving school library programs, while valuing equity and diverse representation.

  • Willingness to participate in three full-day meetings per year.

    • The meetings will be either virtual or face-to-face depending on travel restrictions.

    • Face-to-face meetings will include travel reimbursement and meals.

  • Commitment to serve the group for two years.

Please complete this application form by November 19, 2021, to be considered for this amazing opportunity. The new group will be announced in the first week of December.
