ACTION REQUIRED: End of School Year Reminders for School Nutrition Programs

Tuesday, May 23, 2023

As the 2022-23 school year is coming to a close, there are some important action items required for the school meal programs.

Required for All School Food Authorities (SFAs):

USDA Child Nutrition Program Online Contract due June 9, 2023.

Annual Financial Report (AFR)

  • The AFR for the current school year (July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2023) is due August 31, 2023.
  • Ensure all revenues and expenses for the nonprofit school food service account (Fund 50) are broken out by program and expense category.

Summer Food Service Program Outreach (SFSP) due before the last day of school

  • All SFAs are required to inform households before the end of the school year of the availability and location of meals offered through the SFSP. Outreach for SFSP must be completed by all SFAs regardless of whether SFSP is offered by the SFA itself. More information is located on the Outreach webpage.

Required for Some SFAs:

Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

  • If your school food authority (SFA) is interested in participating in CEP for SY 2023-24, the CEP application consisting of the Agreement and Eligibility Worksheet is due by June 30, 2023. This is a four-year agreement that is required for SFAs newly electing CEP or SFAs renewing for a new four-year cycle.
  • For current CEP sites, the Annual Intent Form is required to be submitted by June 30, 2023. This required form notifies the School Nutrition Team if the SFA will continue in CEP or will modify the claiming percentage or participating schools.

Seamless Summer Option (SSO)

  • If your SFA is interested in operating SSO for summer 2023, all sites must meet eligibility requirements and complete an SSO application. You may request an application at SSO@dpi.wi.gov. SSO applications are due May 24, 2023.

Nonprogram Food Revenue Tool

  • Complete the DPI Nonprogram Food Revenue Tool to assist with calculating prices of nonprogram foods for SY 2023-24 and to ensure USDA nonprogram revenue requirements are met.
  • SFAs that sell only nonprogram milk and adult meals are exempt from completing the tool.
  • More information can be found on the Financial Management webpage.

Submit June 2023 Reimbursement Claim

  • Unlike all other months, the June reimbursement claim may be submitted after the last day of service and before the end of the month.

Submit Annual Wisconsin School Day Milk Program Claim

  • If applicable, submit the Wisconsin School Day Milk Program (WSDMP) claim to DPI for SY 2022-23 by August 31, 2023.
  • Only milk served to students eligible for free or reduced price meals is eligible for reimbursement.

Submit Annual Elderly Nutrition Program Claim

  • If applicable, submit the Elderly Nutrition Program Claim for SY 2022-23 by August 31, 2023.

Hiring a New Food Service Director?

  • If your SFA is planning on hiring a new Food Service Director for SY 2023-24, please review the Hiring Requirements to ensure the candidate meets the minimum requirements. SFAs with an enrollment of 2,499 or less that cannot recruit a candidate who meets the minimum hiring requirements may be eligible for an exemption. Contact Karrie Isaacson at karrie.isaacson@dpi.wi.gov for more information.

If you have questions regarding these requirements, please contact DPI FNS
