Special Dietary Needs Rules and Carbohydrate Counting for Students with Diabetes

The Department of Public Instruction (DPI) SNT has received an increasing number of questions regarding the role of the school food service department in the dietary management of diabetes. Many schools are relying on food service staff to assess carbohydrate counts for students participating in the National School Lunch Program, the Afterschool Snack Program, and the School Breakfast Program. This attached memo will clarify the appropriate role of food service staff in accommodating the special dietary needs of students as it has been outlined by the USDA in the 2017 guidance Accommodating Children with Disabilities in the School Meal Programs.

2017 Year-End Payment Processing Schedule

This is just a reminder that the Child Nutrition payment processing schedule at the end of every year is a little different from the norm. There are no claims processing the last two weeks in December.
