Updates from the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) School Nutrition Team (SNT)

Direct Certification Updates

A new feature has been added to Direct Certification to prevent users from conducting partial enrollment runs as full enrollment runs and vice versa using enrollment data to verify. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the enrollment data the SNT has on file may be out of date for your school or district. If you attempt to conduct Direct Certification and get an enrollment error, please email the total number of students enrolled at each site in your district to DPIFNS@dpi.wi.gov and we will update Direct Certification with the correct enrollment information.

We realize that school enrollments are still changing as the school year gets underway, however the enrollment error is only triggered when the total enrollment in the upload file varies five percent or more from the enrollment number in Direct Certification. Please note that if you have successfully conducted Direct Certification without error or have already updated the enrollment for your school or district, you may continue to conduct Direct Certification as usual.

Please make sure that the school codes you are using in your upload file match the List of School Codes for Direct Certification. If the school codes in your upload do not match the list, please email DPISNT@dpi.wi.gov for assistance. If you have already notified the DPI SNT of a school code change, or the deletion or addition of a new site for Direct Certification, no further action is needed at this time.

Other Updates and Information

Summer P-EBT Information (from the WI Department of Health Services)

PLEASE FORWARD TO SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS OR STAFF WORKING WITH P-EBT OVER THE SUMMER.

DEADLINE FOR FAMILIES IS SEPTEMBER 1, 2021

Thank you for all your assistance helping children across Wisconsin access P-EBT benefits. This effort has included a significant amount of coordination and we appreciate your hard work helping the children of Wisconsin. As you may have heard, the Department of Health Services (DHS) is in the process of preparing to issue Summer P-EBT benefits to eligible students statewide. Pending a few additional eligibility criteria in some cases, these benefits are available to students and children who received benefits through the School P-EBT or Pre-6 P-EBT programs during the 2020-21 school year. These benefits are also available to children who are newly eligible to receive free or reduced price meals for the first time in the 2021-22 school year. These new (first-time) recipients of free or reduced price school meals may be eligible for Summer P-EBT through the submission and approval of a free or reduced price meal application, Direct Certification, or enrollment in a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school.

To help make sure all eligible children receive Summer P-EBT benefits, we need your help! DHS has created the attached flyer and appreciates your assistance in distributing it to any family who submits (or has already submitted) a free or reduced price meal application for the 2021-22 school year. Specifically, this flyer should be given to any family who turned/turns in a free or reduced price meal application since the 2020-21 school year ended and before September 1, 2021. This flyer should also be provided to parents/guardians of children who are newly eligible for free or reduced price meals in the 2021-22 school year due to Direct Certification or brand new enrollment in a CEP school.

This Flyer (also available in Spanish and Hmong) provides information about how a child may become eligible for Summer P-EBT benefits and describes the steps they need to take to ensure benefits are sent to them if eligible.

If you have any questions about P-EBT, please contact DHS at SchoolPEBT@wisconsin.gov.

Your continued assistance in getting support to families across the state is appreciated!
