Updated: Summer Food Service Program Reimbursement Rates for the Seamless Summer Option

As noted above, USDA released updated rates for the remainder of the current school year. Lunch and supper meal rates have increased 24.5 cents and breakfast rates have increased 14.25 cents. Increased rates will be reflective starting with your January 2022 meal claims.
 

Training Update: Webcasts Have Moved!

To better encompass the multiple platforms used for digital learning, you will now find all our webcasts and e-learning courses on the Online Learning webpage.
 

Recognition at Retirement

Do you know a school nutrition employee who is retiring this year? The DPI SNT would like to recognize them for their many years of dedication and commitment to the health and nutritional well-being of the students they service. Please complete the Certificate of Appreciation Form to request a certificate.
 

Reminder: Lifecycle of Farm to School Workshop Series

Interested in starting or expanding an existing school garden? Join the DPI School Nutrition Team for a series of eight, free workshops featuring steps in the Lifecycle of Farm to School (school garden). The workshops will be held throughout 2022 and although attendance in all workshops is encouraged for a comprehensive learning experience, it is not required.
 
The first workshop, Seed Starting, will be held Thursday, January 27th from 1:30-4:00 PM and will cover how to start seeds indoors this winter to plant in the school garden in the spring. Due to the ongoing pandemic, this first workshop will be held virtually, but will be interactive and engaging! Please Register Here. The first 40 participants to sign-up will receive a free package of seeds and soil to use during the workshop!

School Nutrition S.T.A.R. Webinar Series

Date: Thursday January 13, 2022

Join us for a 2-part webinar series that will highlight school success stories during the supply chain disruptions. Program operators across the nation have faced several challenges this school year due to the supply chain disruptions. Many schools have identified good practices and successful strategies to combat those challenges and continue serving students nutritious meals.
 

Whole Kids Foundation: Garden Grant Applications Opening Soon!

The more kids feel connected to their food, the more their curiosity builds and their willingness to try new things grows. School gardens are a great way to foster a relationship between kids and veggies. Education extends beyond the classroom and an edible garden learning space is a great place for little ones to grow. Visit the Garden Grant Program webpage for more information. Applications will be open from Monday February 14 to Friday March 11.
 

Culinary Institute of Child Nutrition Webinar

Date: Thursday, January 13, 2022

School kitchens are busy, and stress levels tend to rise without careful menu planning and advanced preparation. Our panelists will share strategies for efficient production, serving methods, kitchen organization and layout, and other tips to help a kitchen team work efficiently. Participants will learn to identify at least three organization strategies to help the kitchen team in a child nutrition program work more efficiently.
