Transitioning to Standard Operations in the Child Nutrition Programs and the Keep Kids Fed Act of 2022: Follow-up Questions and Answers

On July 7, 2022 the USDA Food and Nutrition Service hosted a webinar with the National CACFP Sponsors Association, along with other national allies to discuss the child nutrition program operations for summer 2022. Questions and answers are regarding the nationwide waiver flexibilities issued through the Keep Kids Fed Act of 2022.

Child Nutrition Flexibilities for Summer 2022 and School Year 2022-23: Transitioning to Normal Child Nutrition Operations

Students thrive in a healthy school environment. This back to school period can be a great time for school food authorities (SFAs) and schools to create strong school environments that support students’ growth, learning, and well-being. Local school wellness policies, Smart Snacks, nourishing school meals, and nutrition education can help students develop healthy eating habits. Use Team Nutrition’s Back to School Online Toolkit to support healthy choices during the school day with these ready-to-go resources.

Meal Talk Webinar on Local School Wellness Policies

On Wednesday, August 17, USDA’s Team Nutrition will present a Meal Talk webinar on Local School Wellness Policies. This webinar will be held from 3 to 4 pm Eastern Time (2-3:00 PM CST) and will feature guest speakers from South Carolina’s Local Wellness Policy State Technical Assistance Team and Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Register today!

This webinar may count toward USDA Professional Standards for School Nutrition Programs, Key Area 4000: Communications and Marketing and Key Topics 4100: Communications and Marketing. The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Commission on Dietetic Registration has approved this webinar for 1.0 hour of Continuing Professional Education Units (CPEUs).

Local School Wellness Policy Refresh! Infographic

This new infographic encourages SFAs to bring their school community together and refresh their Local School Wellness Policy efforts. The Local School Wellness Policy Refresh! Infographic is available in English and Spanish. Print copies are coming soon! School Nutrition Environment Web Quiz

The School Nutrition Environment Quiz is the latest to join the existing collection of Team Nutrition Team Nutrition Web Quizzes. Test takers can assess their knowledge of the school nutrition environment, and access additional resources after taking the quiz.

Updated: A Guide to Smart Snacks in School

This popular publication has been updated to reflect policies and guidance for current and upcoming school years. It is designed for anyone who sells foods and beverages to students outside of the School Meals Programs on the school campus during the school day. Help make the healthy choice the easy choice for kids at school! Available A Guide to Smart Snacks in School (PDF) and Order Printed Version.

Team Nutrition Schools Network

Schools are encouraged to sign up as a Team Nutrition School! New printed posters and stickers will soon be available only for Team Nutrition Schools. Schools can also update their contact information in the Team Nutrition Schools Network.

Hiring: Public Health Nutritionists

The School Nutrition Team is hiring three, full-time Public Health Nutritionist Positions. Anyone in the public can apply. The deadline to apply is Thursday, August 18, 2022. Please forward to anyone you think might be interested. Thank you!

Final Reminder: School Nutrition Skills Development Courses 2022

Virtual SNSDC 2022 Registration for the week of August 22-25 is still available and will close at the end of the day on Wednesday, August 17. You may register as an individual or for a group. Please note that if you register as a group, the confirmation email will be sent to the registrant who completed the form. Please forward the message as necessary or feel free to attend the virtual classes as a group. You can expect the final confirmation email with the link to the class meeting and additional resources later this week.

Our team looks forward to your attendance and participation in next week's classes. Remember that the Assistant Directors of the School Nutrition Team will be hosting Opening Remarks on the morning of Monday, August 22 to kick-off a great week of learning and collaboration.

Institute of Child Nutrition S.T.A.R. Webinar: Back-to-School: Best Practices and Tips to Prepare Healthy School Meals
