2019-20 ESSA School Level Data Review and Release

Wednesday, February 10, 2021

As the SFS Team completes our review of the 2019-20 school district financial reports, we are transitioning into public reporting. After the COVID-related delay in releasing the 2018-19 data, we are pleased to announce that DPI is scheduled to release the 2019-20 ESSA school-level per pupil expenditure data on-time in the WISEdash Public Portal, on March 9, 2021. Spring data releases will be the practice moving forward.

2019-20 data are now available in WISEdash for Districts, accessed through WISEhome, for a final data quality review (WISEdash for Districts > Advanced Analysis > Finance > Per Pupil Expenditures). SFS will also be contacting districts/LEAs directly on data quality issues we identify, including any needed follow-up questions on information provided last fall in the report finalization process.

Data will be frozen on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, so any final changes arising from the data quality review must be made by Monday, March 1.

A few reminders:

  • Per-pupil amounts in WISEdash may be a dollar or two off from what’s displayed in the Reports tab of the WiSFiP School Level Reporting application. WISEdash is the official calculation directly in the database; the reporting app calculates on the fly and rounds slightly differently.
  • If your 2019-20 School Level Annual Report has not been finalized, a “Report Not Finalized” message will appear in WISEdash for Districts. This can be for a few different reasons and your district/LEA could well have completed the report on time. If the data are correct and complete, all you will need to do is log into the WiSFiP SLR app, go to the Finalize tab, and step through your 2019-2020 Annual Report data to the final screen, where you can check the box and re-finalize the report.
  • Enrollments used in the per-pupil expenditure calculations come from certified district/LEA submissions of September 2019 Third Friday data through WISEdata. If your district/LEA believes the enrollments shown are in error, or that a group of students should or should not be included in a given per-pupil denominator, information on requesting an enrollment modification is available on the SLR FAQ page.
  • If you believe the expenditure data for your district/LEA is in error, please review your 2019-2020 Annual Report in the WiSFiP School Level Reporting application and make corrections as necessary. Be sure to work through the Finalize screens and re-finalize your report if needed.

Data will be frozen on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, so any final changes arising from the data quality review must be made by Monday, March 1.
