Claims for School Mental Health Aid Now Open

Monday, February 1, 2021

The DPI Student Services, Prevention & Wellness (SSPW) Team is now accepting claims for Aid for School Mental Health Programs. A school district, independent charter school, or private school in a choice program may submit a claim if it increased its expenditures to employ or contract for licensed school social workers from 2018-19 to 2019-20.

The claim form is linked through the SSPW page on this aid program. Claims are due on Friday, March 12, 2021.

A school social worker must be licensed by DPI and/or the DSPS examining board for their salary and benefits or contract costs to be included in an Aid for School Mental Health Programs claim. Initially, claimants are eligible to receive a “Tier 1” amount, which is 50 percent of the increase in their costs for licensed school social workers from 2018-19 to 2019-20. If there are any funds remaining after Tier 1 dollars are paid out, claimants will be eligible for “Tier 2” funds based on their 2019-20 costs minus their Tier 1 eligibility.
