Get Kids Ahead Announcement from Deputy State Superintendent John W. Johnson, PhD

Thursday, January 12, 2023

Dear District Administrators,

I hope this beginning of 2023 finds you well. Last year, Governor Evers and State Superintendent Underly announced an allocation of federal funds to a second round of Get Kids Ahead funding for public schools. Today, we are opening the Get Kids Ahead portal for local education agencies to indicate their interest in receiving funds under the second round of the program. All local education agencies must again indicate their interest in receiving funds – regardless of whether they received dollars in the first round, with a deadline of January 27, 2023. Payments will be issued in early February to all who indicate their interest. A list of eligible funding amounts can be found on the department’s Get Kids Ahead website.

The portal is designed to be as simple as possible to ensure all interested parties receive funding, and the department has compiled a website with resources to help local education agencies best utilize funds. Questions about the program should be directed to getmhs@dpi.wi.gov. The department’s school mental health consultants also offer office hours on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m., which can be access through Microsoft teams (using this link outside that period of time will not result in service from department staff).

Again, please indicate that you want this second round of funding in the portal by January 27, 2023.

Sincerely,

John W. Johnson, PhD
Deputy State Superintendent
