Upcoming Survey for P-EBT Benefits

Thursday, January 21, 2021

DPI is partnering with the Department of Health Services (DHS) for the administration of additional P-EBT benefits. These benefits provide additional, temporary funds for students that would have received free or reduced-price school meals if not for the COVID-19 health emergency. A survey, collecting learning model data at the grade level, will be sent by our colleagues in School Nutrition to principals of schools that participate in the National School Lunch Program on Monday, January 25, 2021.

We recognize that a lot of surveys and reports have been going out. Unfortunately, the P-EBT requirements are different enough that we cannot use other data for this purpose. A quick response from your principals will be of great help to their students in need.

Students that meet the following criteria are eligible for additional P-EBT funds for food.

  • The child would have received free or reduced-price school meals under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program if not for the COVID-19 health emergency. This includes children who are directly certified or certified by the school meal application. It also includes children enrolled in a Community Eligibility Provision school or a school operating under Provisions 2; and
  • The child does not receive free or reduced-price meals at school because the school is closed, operating virtually, or has been operating with reduced attendance hours for at least five consecutive days in the current school year.
