Topics addressed include career opportunities, marketing, economic contributions to agribusiness, agricultural and nonagricultural interrelations hips, and agricultural trends. Objectives To develop student understanding of the range and scope of career opportunities in the field of agriculture To develop student appreciation for the world's dependence on agriculture To increase student comprehension regarding agriculturally related contributions to state and national economies To develop student understanding of the Wisconsin agriculture industry complex and its infrastructural supports To examine historical trends in agriculture at the international, national, state, and local levels Competencies At the conclusion of this unit, students will be able to explain career opportunity trends on the state and national level; appreciate the world's need for agriculture; understand the importance of agriculture to the state economy; explain the complexity of agriculture in Wisconsin; identify types of agricultural production in the state; determine Wisconsin's rank in the production of various agricultural commodities, such as dairy products, forage, and cash crops; discuss outlets and markets for Wisconsin farm products; examine the trends of sizes and number of farms in the county, state, and nation; and determine the national rankings of selected agricultural products.
