WIS456 SUPERVISED AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE (SAE) PROGRAMS - AGRIBUSINESS 02/26/1990 09:19 AM D1 280 Lines Cross-Cluster Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Programs - Agribusiness This unit deals with the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program relating to agribusiness occupations. Topics include the value and usefulness of accurate records, using resource materials in choosing a career, salesmanship, and career opportunities. Objectives To emphasize to students the value of SAE programs as means of acquiring and integrating knowledge and skills concerning careers in agribusiness To help students relate educational and job experience requirements to specific agribusiness jobs and careers To assist students to articulate a tentative career interest and identify learning goals related to that interest To facilitate student inquiry into better ways to make use of resources available for making and pursuing career choices To develop student appreciation of the value of recordkeeping as a learning and management tool To enhance student ability to keep accurate and useful records To prepare students to negotiate an acceptable agreement covering the terms of their supervised agricultural experience To assist students to identify skills and understanding they acquired from their Supervised Agricultural Experience program Competencies At the conclusion of this unit, students will be able to explain the need and value of Supervised Agricultural Experience programs; develop an understanding of the requirements of specific occupations in the field of agriculture/agribusiness; prepare a written commitment on a career interest and goals that relate to their Supervised Agricultural Experience program; identify resources available for the development of a satisfactory SAE program; become aware of the importance of good records; understand the requirements of records and relate them to their SAE program; learn the various terms used in recordkeeping; develop an appropriate agreement designed to meet the needs of the student, parents, instructor, and employer; understand the importance of a financial statement and what it includes; prepare appropriate forms required for filing income taxes; develop the skills necessary to record competencies gained as the result of classroom and laboratory instruction in agribusiness; prepare an inventory of items included in their SAE program; compile an accurate account of records of income and expenses for the SAE program; prepare a yearly financial summary of the SAE program; and record accurate information on all phases of student involvement in FFA and other youth activities. Encourage students to compete for awards in the FFA, Wisconsin Junior Dairymen's Association, and other organizations at the local, state, and national levels. Post bulletin board displays featuring recordkeeping. Invite resource speakers - such as local farmers; agribusiness people; and local, state, or national FFA officers or alumni - to give class presentations. View films, videotapes, and slides on topics related to this unit. Make available for student review the records of past award-winning students. Learning Activities Participate in a Supervised Agricultural Experience program. Develop and maintain a record book that suits your SAE program. Complete a simulated SAE program record book if a program is not possible. Complete a Proficiency Award application on a computer disk.
