WIS461 SUPERVISED AGRICULTURAL EXPERIENCE (SAE) PROGRAMS - PRODUCTION AG 02/26/1990 09:20 AM D1 327 Lines Cross-Cluster Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Programs - Production Agriculture (5-12 days) This unit deals with the Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program relating to agricultural production. Topics include the value and usefulness of accurate records, using resource materials in choosing a career, career interests and goals, and arranging for Supervised Agricultural Experience programs. Objectives To increase student awareness of the value of Supervised Agricultural Experience programs as a means of acquiring and integrating knowledge about agriculture, careers, and education To give students opportunities to examine the role of SAE programs in learning and career development To provide students with an opportunity to articulate a tentative career interest in production agriculture and develop learning goals related to that interest To facilitate student inquiry into ways to make better use of resources available for career and educational planning To help students arrange and get formal approval for a supervised agricultural experience To develop student appreciation of the value of recordkeeping as a learning and management tool To provide students with instruction in how to set up and maintain useful and accurate records To help students identify skills and knowledge they acquired from their SAE program Competencies At the conclusion of this unit, students will be able to explain the reasons behind the SAE program; recognize the range and nature of SAE programs available in production agriculture; identify a variety of improvement practices and skills relevant to their specific program area; explain and execute a production SAE program agreement; prepare an inventory, expense, and income record; explain the importance and uses of accurate and complete SAE program records; prepare a profit and loss statement and use the information in making management decisions; prepare a financial statement; and prepare an investment credit form and income tax return. Describe the records used in the management of an enterprise in production agriculture. Identify the records needed to prepare income tax returns for a production agriculture operation. Demonstrate safety procedures to follow when working with agricultural equipment and livestock. Complete a Proficiency Award application on a computer disk.
