From: Bormett, Michael R. DPI Sent: Monday, September 12, 2016 1:03 PM To: Bormett, Michael R. DPI Subject: Remaining 2015-16 Alternative Applications To – District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From – Mike Bormett, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject – 2015-16 Alternative Applications It has come to our attention that some districts may still be sitting on 2015-16 alternative applications that were submitted on or before June 30, 2016 and have not entered them in OPAL and/or took action to approve or deny. State law requires districts to immediately enter any alternative application in OPAL and to provide a written decision to the parent no later than 20 days after receiving the application. If you have any of these leftover 2015-16 alternative applications, you must still enter them into OPAL this week in order for the final 2015-16 open enrollment data and financial transaction information to be accurate. Since OPAL has rolled over to the 2016-17 school year, it is no longer possible for districts to enter 2015- 16 alternative applications in the 2015-16 school year. Therefore, you will need to use the following workaround: We ask that you go into OPAL and enter these alternative applications. They will show up now as 2016-17 applications. However, our programmer will go into OPAL and move them back to 2015- 16 behind the scenes. Please let us know when these applications have been entered, including the students’ names.
