DPI Subject: Resident Pupil Moves After 3rd Friday Count To – District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From – Jen Danfield, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject – Resident Pupil Moves After 3rd Friday Count There is still confusion as to when a parent should complete an alternative application versus a current year tuition waiver when a resident pupil moves after the 3rd Friday in September. Current year tuition waivers must be granted over an alternative application for moves that take place after the 3rd Friday in September. This is necessary due to the funding method. If a student is attending District A on the 3rd Friday, District A includes that student on the revenue limit membership count and the district is able to raise revenue for the student. If the student later moves to District B, a current year waiver keeps funding exactly the same. Under the alternative application, District B, which did not raise revenue for the student, would be required to pay District A, which has already raised revenue for the student. In order to keep the funding the same, a current year tuition waiver must be completed. Again, this only applies for pupils who were living in your district but moved out after the 3rd Friday Count and want to continue attending your district for the remainder of the current school year.
