From: DPI Open Enrollment Sent: Monday, April 22, 2019 9:29 AM To: Demrow, Jennifer DPI Subject: Resident District Records - Clarification and Reminder for OE Applications To – District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From – Jen Demrow, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject – Resident District Records - Clarification and Reminder for OE Applications We have been receiving questions about the nonresident district requesting records from the resident district and that nonresident districts are sending out records requests to resident districts for applications submitted during the regular application period. As a reminder, per Wis. Stat § 118.51(3)(a)1m., resident school districts must send special education and expulsion records to the nonresident district on or before May 10th for pupils whose parents submitted open enrollment applications during the regular application period. The nonresident district does not need to request these records from the resident district. However, if the pupil is currently attending a public school other than the resident district, the nonresident district will have to request the records from the school district of attendance. The nonresident district should not request records from private schools. For resident districts that have sent records before May 10th, please check to see if there are any newly developed or revised IEPs for any applicant. If there are, please send copies to the nonresident district. If you have any questions, please contact us at openenrollment@dpi.wi.gov or call us at 888- 245-2732, option 2.
