From: DPI Open Enrollment Sent: Thursday, April 25, 2019 8:58 AM To: Demrow, Jennifer DPI Subject: Correcting Resident Districts on Open Enrollment Applications To – District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From – Jen Demrow, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject – Correcting Resident Districts on Open Enrollment Applications We have been getting a lot of requests to change resident districts, delete open enrollment applications where the parent’s street address doesn’t match the resident district indicated on the application or the resident district wants to deny the application due to an incorrect resident district listed on an application submitted during the regular application period. Please remember that the resident school district listed on the open enrollment application does NOT have to match the current street address. Parents may apply for open enrollment in anticipation of a move and they have until the 3rd Friday in September (September 20, 2019 for the 2019-20 school year) to establish residency in the school district. Thus, districts should not be requesting a change of resident district unless it has been confirmed with the parent/family that they will not be moving into the listed resident district for the 2019-20 school year. Also, resident districts may not deny an open enrollment application just because the resident district does not match the street address. Nonresident districts may request a change of resident district on an open enrollment application, if it is appropriate, after the open enrollment regular application period has ended. We do have information regarding this situation in our open enrollment FAQ document (https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/open-enrollment/pdf/oe-faq-5-2017.pdf) located on page 7, question 26 and page 8, question 30.
