From: DPI Open Enrollment Sent: Wednesday, May 31, 2017 10:00 AM To: Danfield, Jennifer L. DPI Subject: Withdrawing Pupils Before the Beginning of the Next School Year To – District Administrators and Open Enrollment Coordinators From – Jen Danfield, Open Enrollment Consultant Subject – Withdrawing Pupils Before the Beginning of the Next School Year There is a feature in OPAL that will allow you to withdraw pupils during the summer or at the end of the school year, so they will not be rolled over to the 2017-18 school year and will not be on the 3rd Friday in September list. Since the OPAL rollover occurs on August 1, to keep pupils from being rolled over into 2017-18, the summer withdrawal must be entered and approved by the other district before the end of the day on July 31. In order to complete a pupil’s summer withdrawal, from the Students page and the Actively Open Enrolled tab, click on the pupil’s name to bring up their Student Summary page. Click on the Withdraw Student tab, click Edit, and enter the withdrawal information under the “Summer Withdrawals” section. It is not necessary to withdraw graduating seniors. They will be dropped from the All Students list as part of the rollover. This also applies to 8th graders in K-8 districts. If you are looking for further instructions on how to withdraw pupils, there is a Camtasia presentation titled “Withdrawing Students in OPAL” on our training page at https://dpi.wi.gov/open-enrollment/resources/training.
