Kris McDaniel, WI DPI Social Studies Consultant, is partnering with CESAs across the state to offer one-day workshops to assist districts with implementation of the revised social studies standards. These workshops will kick off the Year 2 focus of "Curriculum" rollout encouraged by DPI. Kris will be in CESA 2 presenting, and participating CESAs will join via Zoom with an expert facilitator.
The workshops also parallel resources, videos, and webinars being released by DPI during the 2019-20 school year. Each collaborative session is designed for district teams or individuals involved in Social Studies standards rollout.
Note that every CESA may not be able to offer every workshop, but may choose to send information out via email, webinar, or offer discussion in online spaces. If there is a topic your CESA cannot offer, make sure to check the WiSSS DPI Rollout webpage for information about resources and webinars that may focus on that topic!
Day H: March 19, 2020
Social Studies Inquiry and Classroom Connections using Quality Resources
We are going to return to a deep dive into inquiry in the social studies classroom, and a deeper dive into quality resources. The day will include discussions and brainstorms over “What’s in the Cabinet?” - what tools and resources are already out there to help educators? - and using rubrics to review resources. We’ll spend part of the day reviewing parts of the inquiry cycle and different lesson examples, and receive an overview of work done by one CESA on using the Quality Materials Rubric with popular social studies resource sets. DPI Social Studies consultant Kris McDaniel will be in CESA 2 and will virtually attend in your local CESA.
