DPI Receives $10M, Five-Year Grant Focused on Justice-Involved Youth with Disabilities

Thursday, September 19, 2024

DPI collaborated with the Department of Workforce Development and the Department of Corrections to design and implement a model program to transition justice-involved youth with disabilities to competitive integrated employment. The grant program was highly competitive, and the U.S. Department of Education awarded only 27 grants. The program funds (1) comprehensive case managers to provide vocational rehabilitation training, transition support, and reintegration support for youth with disabilities transitioning from Type 1 secure facilities back into their communities, (2) dyslexia screening for all youth during intake at state correctional facilities, and (3) an app-based reintegration toolkit for justice-involved youth and the adults who care for them.
