Bureau of Finance


The Bureau of Finance is responsible for managing the agency’s financial operations, ensuring the allowable, effective, transparent, and strategic use of state and federal education funds. The Bureau plays a critical role in supporting DPI’s mission by advising agency leaders on alignment of fiscal and personnel resources with educational priorities and providing financial and procurement guidance to internal divisions and external partners. The Bureau also ensures compliance with federal and state law regarding budgeting, accounting, procurement, and reporting.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Financial Management and Reporting: Overseeing all financial transactions, including accounting, auditing, and reporting functions. The Bureau ensures that DPI complies with applicable financial regulations, maintains fiscal integrity, and provides accurate, timely reporting to stakeholders.
  • Federal and State Fund Administration: Managing the overall allocation and monitoring of state and federal funds utilized by the agency, including key programs such as Title I, IDEA, and ESSER. Ensuring compliance with state and federal laws related fund accounting and auditing. The Bureau ensures funds are used in accordance with grant requirements and supports districts and other subrecipients in financial compliance.
  • Internal Financial Services: Supporting DPI staff with procurement and purchasing, travel, federal time reporting, contracts, and other financial operations that enable the agency to function efficiently and effectively.
