What is the DPI Strategic Plan?

Learners, educators, schools, and libraries face evolving challenges — from workforce shortages, to emerging mental health needs and outdated systems. Under the leadership of State Superintendent Dr. Jill Underly, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction launched a five-year strategic plan to ensure every learner and educator has the support they need to succeed.

We’re building stronger schools, libraries, and a stronger Wisconsin through three strategies:

Learner and Educator Mental Health

Students learn best — and educators teach best — when mental health is prioritized.

Stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges can make learning and teaching more difficult. That’s why the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction focuses on the mental well-being of both students and educators, so classrooms are healthier, safer, and more supportive for everyone.
