April - Month of the Military Child
During April, we celebrate Month of the Military Child (MOMC). It is recognized and celebrated to honor the challenges, contributions, and sacrifices of our military children and their families. Caspar Weinberger, former Defense Secretary, established this commemoration in 1986. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recognizes and celebrates our military children and families. State Superintendent, Jill Underly, has proclaimed April as Month of the Military Child, see the 2025 Military Child Month Proclamation. In 2009, the Wisconsin legislature enacted the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children into law in order to remove barriers to educational success for our military children.
