Information for PDP Team Members

DPI is currently receiving a high volume of contacts for assistance.  The three most commonly asked questions and their answers are below:

Help with WAMS IDs

Before you can submit an application to DPI, you must register for a Web Access Management Systems (WAMS) user ID.

How to set up a WAMS account

Already have one or more WAMS accounts?

How to start your WAMS account recovery:

Perform a WAMS account recovery for all emails you have. Enter your email address but do NOT enter your User ID to start your WAMS account recovery. Once in the account recovery process you will be prompted to change your password. After you change your password you will be told in parentheses what your correct User ID is. Please make note of that before you terminate the account recovery session. Once you have recovered all WAMS accounts you have, login to ELO with each of your accounts individually. If you can see your licenses, you are logging in with the correct WAMS account. If you are taken through the Onboarding process again, you are not using the correct WAMS account and should try another account.

If you encounter errors in the WAMS account recovery process, please contact WAMS directly.  DPI is unable to help with WAMS recovery because the system is used by many state agencies and is run by the Department of Administration:

Revalidating Life or Lifetime License

Educators, whose Life or Lifetime license was invalidated in July, have until December 31 to revalidate their license. Upon approval of the $45 Request Background Check - Lifetime Licensee [5900] application, the Lifetime license will be revalidated just as if the educator completed the application before June 30. Educators will have until December 31 to complete this application for their license to be revalidated.

Background Checks

DPI is required by law to conduct a background check on each applicant for a Wisconsin educator license regardless of whether it is an initial request or a renewal request.

All educators are required to complete a background check to maintain or revalidate a life or lifetime license. There are directions for how to complete the $45 Request Background Check - Lifetime Licensee [5900].

To find the year in which your most recent background check was submitted, search License Lookup using your name or entity number and check see the “Last Background Check Submitted” field.

Being a Professional Development Plan (PDP) team member is a unique opportunity to provide collaborative, professional, support of new teachers, administrators, and pupil services professionals in Wisconsin’s schools. Participating on a PDP team not only contributes to the professional growth of the educator, it can also enhance the professional development and professional practice of the team member.

PDP Team Training - Refresher Course For Previously Trained Team Members

The status for Educators who were previously trained to be a PDP team member expired on June 30, 2016.  To renew the certification for another five years, an online refresher course is required.  The refresher course is still available.  Click here to Get Started.   BE SURE AND ENTER THE NAME THAT IS ON YOUR LICENSE.

PDP Team Training - New Team Members

Training for new Professional Development Plan (PDP) Team members occurs in a blended online format. DPI is partnering with CESAs and large school districts to provide training sessions.  Participants must complete online material in the two weeks preceding the one half-day face-to-face meeting.  To register, please email the contact person for the training you want to take.  There is no fee for these workshops.

PDP Team Training - IHE Representatives

Educators who are interested in serving as a PDP team member as an IHE Representative must obtain a letter of designation from a Wisconsin College or University. Educators will be added to the list of active PDP team members as an IHE representative after completing the new team member training above and the DPI receiving the signed letter of designation.  A letter template can be found at https://dpi.wi.gov/sites/default/files/imce/tepdl/ihepdpdesig.doc.

The following refresher materials may be useful for PDP team members in reviewing a PDP:

  • PDP Goal Approval – The top ten things to remember when reviewing initial educators’ PDPs for goal approval.
  • PDP Verification – The top ten things to remember when reviewing initial educators’ PDP for verification.

Electronic PDP Verification

As of September 1, 2012, all educators are required to submit their PDP Verification data to DPI via an electronic service provider (QEI). The PDP may be created outside the electronic PDP system.

While a team member who is verifying a completed PDP cannot override the decision on a previously-approved goal, they must still review the Goal Approval Component (Step I and II) at the time of PDP Verification.  The QEI system has a check box related to Step I and II, where the team member will be required to answer Yes or No. Example:“I have read steps I and II of this educator’s PDP.”
