9th Annual Wild Wisconsin Winter Web Conference

Friday, December 11, 2020

Guest post by Jamie Matczak, Education Consultant for the Wisconsin Valley Library Service

Registration is now open for the 9th Annual Wild Wisconsin Winter Web Conference.

The conference will take place on January 27-28, 2021. Fourteen sessions will be available in four different tracks, including Public Services (new!), Management, Marketing, and Small and Mighty. Presenters this year include Dipesh Navsaria, Angela Hursh, Beck Tench, Helyn-Luisi Mills, Julie Biando Edwards, and more.

Planning has been underway since April to give those who work in Wisconsin public libraries an excellent conference experience, without having to leave their library or work space.

"The purpose of having this conference online in January was so attendees and presenters didn't have to worry about traveling in Wisconsin winter weather," said Jamie Matczak, WVLS Education Consultant and Conference Coordinator. "We didn't envision at one point we'd find ourselves in a pandemic where travel and large gatherings weren't recommended, so we feel fortunate that we are prepared and are used to the online conference model."

In order to prevent "online fatigue," sessions will continue to only last 60 minutes, and there is a minimum 30-minute break in between all of them. Both days of the conference have a longer, 90-minute lunch break that also include a stretch break led by an instructor.

"We want people to have the opportunity to really focus on these sessions over two days," Matczak said. "We also recognize that people have been in online meetings a lot more this past year, so having breaks to refill beverages, move around, or stretch are important."

"Short Stretch Breaks" will be featured from 12 - 12:15 p.m. each day. Attendees can register for these as they regularly would for a webinar.

All 16 public library systems in Wisconsin, along with the Department of Public Instruction, are providing support for this conference. All of the sessions will be recorded and captioned in the event people are unable to attend the live session.
